Hmmm...

Today, there was a post on cafemom that asked what you would do with 640 million dollars (winning the lottery). I really started to think about it.

Chris and I started talking about it and our list would be:
  • Build our dream house... we said five or six bedrooms, 2-3 bath (including a master bathroom), a large kitchen and livingroom,  lots of closet and storage space, and at least a two car garage.
  • Buy both of us new cars
  • Buy my mom a new house
  • Put money away for both of the kids to be able to go to whatever college they want, both get cars, and be able to pay for Grace's wedding
  • Open a fastfood chain, so that we continue to receive income
Then we both started thinking about what we would each want individually...
Chris said that he would want to open a garage where he could repair and customize cars.
It took me awhile to figure out what I really wanted, then it hit me. I would open one of those schools that is specifically for teen parents, and I would make it a support center as well.

Of course, this is all just fictional, but I never thought about that before. I really wish there was some sort of job that I could get where that would be my career. I mean, yeah, a psychologist maybe, but can the specialize in teen parents? And that's not so much support as it is trying to fix something.

Then, my friend Brittany was talking about a place that she volunteers, and she said that I could volunteer once a week to counsel teen moms. I would LOVE that. I really would. I am seriously considering it.

But then that little voice in the back of my head is screaming that I don't need to put something else on my plate, and that I don't need to be away from my babies anymore than I have to. I would have to wait until summer because the hours conflict with my classes, but since I am pretty sure that my summer is going to be free now, I don't think once a week would hurt anything. I'm going to look into it.

Do you guys think I would be good at that sort of thing? I mean, obviously, I have experienced it, so I would know where they are coming from. Plus, I know things like when to feed the baby the different stages of food, all about breastfeeding, car seat safety, safety in general, relationships struggles, time management, college... Things like that, that I have found a lot of teen moms (including myself when Grace was a baby) don't know much about.

What do you guys think? And please be honest! I don't want to end up hurting these girls if I'm not good at it.

  1. I think you give great advice and you could definitely help these girls. But then again it is another thing to add to the plate..Could you volunteer during a summer vacation or something.? Or maybe a couple hours on a Saturday.?

  2. I think you would be awesome at it! I think you being a mom to 2 as a teenager would make you even better honestly. I'm not saying that because I have more than 1 but because I think you could relate with more teenage parents because so many have more then one in their teenage years and won't look at you and think...oh well you just have one kid of course you think blank is doable. I'm not sure if that made sense. Lol!
And I agree alot of girls don't know a lot of the stuff we need too. I for sure didn't with Kaedyn or even Charleigh but got better as I went and kinda mature I guess you could say and really started to research on my own! So with you once being in that "clueless" stage they will be able to relate to you better.

I tell Drew all the time how I would love to be a car seat tech on the side. I would love to show parents how car seats should be installed and used properly. With me being a car seat idiot at one time I think people old relate better. I was a real idiot!!

  3. You are right. It is putting something else on your plate. But I am sure even if you could help in the summer that would be great. When I started there I realized, "This is what people meant by you need time for YOU." I always come back feeling so refreshed. And even thought Sam and I only have 2 days where we are home most of the day now, since storytime is Wednesday and Saturday through Monday is our weekend, that means we enjoy it more. We aren't bored.

And it is really nice. I wanted to do the post abortion because I honestly believe that it is just one of those things that you cannot understand unless you have been there. And I really want to be able to tell them, "I know. I have been there, not too long ago." It is so sad to see women who actually kill theirselves because the guilt has consumed them. And so many marriages fall apart over it. Just so many bad things that happen, even after you think the "problem is solved" as some people put it. Anyway, I think it is a good idea to pick something you are experienced with, like being a teen mom, and put it to "use," if you get what I am saying.

I can still come over today and tell you more about it, as long as you guys don't mind. I don't want to ruin ya'lls time together right after your date.

  4. Erica, I don't think they are open on Saturdays, but I am going to wait for summer if I do it, and since I'm planning on only taking a coupld of classes for the next two semesters, I think I could go after my classes then. Just can't do it this semester, but there is only 1 month left.

Jessika, I completely understand what you are saying. I didn't think about that, but that does make sense. I had thought about trying car seat tech or something with the La Leche League, but I just don't know enough about those things like I do being a teen mom. And I can do some of the car seat things and breastfeeding things with the teen moms because they so often don't know about those things. I would love to make some pamphlets on random things just so they could have them, but I don't know how the center opporates. I'm going to find out more about it today.

Brittany, yeah that makes sense too. I do need something that is for me. I am at the point where I don't like going to school, so even though I do it by myself, I don't enjoy it anymore. I need something I enjoy. Maybe we could do it on the same days and have lunch together or something?
And girl, you are not going to ruin our time. We will have plenty of time together on our date. Once we get home, it's back to normal life lol.
